Merlot Bingham

Coach Merlot, a smiling woman wearing a green cap and a black jacket, stands on rocky shore with waves and a cloudy sky in the background.

Coach Merlot is the FEVA U13 assistant coach in her first year as part of the FEVA coaching staff. Before joining FEVA, Coach Merlot was a varsity athlete and played middle blocker and opposite for her high school and at the Upstate Volleyball Club in South Carolina. She has played intramural volleyball and been a certified referee on campus at Western Washington University in Bellingham for many years. Coach Merlot has trained in every position except for libero/DS, and her ability to play multiple positions has allowed her to be a valuable teammate on and off the court, as a leader, mentor and coach.

Outside of volleyball, Coach Merlot graduated with a BS degree in Marine and Coastal Sciences and Interdisciplinary Studies from WWU in June 2025, and she plans to attend graduate school in the future. Coach Merlot officiates volleyball for the City of Bellingham now and is taking time after graduation to spend time with friends and volunteer with different oceanographic non-profit organizations. She would like to become a marine conservationist and empower individuals to chase their academic and physical goals! Coach Merlot strives to be compassionate, fair, and knowledgeable in the hopes that it will encourage her players to grow not only as individuals, but as a team and help them find success.
